About Us

World Maha Hindu Organization of Canada

An overwhelming desire by committed Hindus from all parts of the world to protect and preserve the cultural and religious identities of the Hindu immigrants to this wonderful country led to the formation of this organization now known as the World Maha Hindu Organization of Canada. Newcomers to this country in the mid eighties were simply labelled by certain members of the larger Canadian society as refugees. These poor immigrants did not have the political structure nor did they have the social influence to adequately maintain and develop Hindu cultural and social values for the benefit of their own people.

Lack of adequate material and information resources led some of these Hindus to become vulnerable to the manipulations of false promises by other religious groups. The WMHO which originally started as the World Hindu Reformed Organizations in April 1989, later changed its name to World Maha Hindu Organization of Canada. The members of this organization consider the name change as a welcome move reflecting the aspirations and objectives of the Hindu people.

  3. To promote and facilitate activities which enrich the lives of others by practicing Seva and to enlist and appreciate the efforts of others who share this passion.

  4. To encourage Hindus to continue to respect the beliefs and practices of other religions so that they may co-exist according to the Law of Karma.

  5. To encourage and support the practice of, and participation in, religious education in all Hindu Institutions.

  6. To encourage parents and children to respect each other and to live accordingly, modeling the inherent culture of Hinduism. Assuming responsibility for their actions, each Hindu should strive to foster Love, Care and Compassion for each other and Society at large.
